The Final Bell....

Wednesday, August 22, 2018.

That's a date I will remember just like the kid's birthdays or May 12, 2017, my diagnosis date.  This was the day of my last active treatment (AKA infusion therapy, AKA maintenance chemo).

I have some mixed feelings about all this.  Excitement, fear, relief.  I am happy to be done, but I am scared that the cancer could develop again.  While I was being pumped full of poisonous drugs at least I knew the cancer didn't stand a chance, but now, what's to say it won't develop again!  That is scary.  But I also know I can't live my life like that.  I can't let the fear of it coming back keep me from moving forward.  So, I am moving on....

To surgery.  Yep, you heard me.  Another surgery.  A few weeks ago my doctor ordered all my tests to be rerun, and that in itself has been a nightmare because of the insurance company.  We couldn't get approval for all of my tests and it has been a pain in the ass.  They did approve a PET scan and the results showed a large mass on my right ovary.  So you can imagine how happy I was to receive that news.  Followed by you need to go get an ultrasound.  Awesome!  BTW - the tamoxifen (the medicine I am supposed to be on for 10 years) causes ovarian cysts and uterine cancer.

Anyway, got the ultrasound and was very relieved to find out it's just a cyst.  A really big one, but nothing malignant so that's good.  I have been on the fence about getting my ovaries removed because there is not a clear answer for me and my type of cancer, but the development of the cyst was my answer.  They are coming out.  Hello, menopause at age 40. So that should be fun for Josh and the kids to deal with me.

The good thing is I won't have to worry about ovarian cancer or uterine cancer because I will be on another medicine with it's on set of side effects.  Yay!

Even with all of that, Wednesday was a good day.  However, this picture is from Friday, because we couldn't go to the cancer center on Wednesday because Tristan had hand, foot, and mouth.  Awesome!
